Dear Reader, January arrived with a soft scattering of snow - just a light dusting across the land here, but more generously across the Sueve mountains opposite, which have been looking especially beautiful in the winter light. And on our walk back from our neighbours after Three Kings Day, we were lucky enough to spot our first Woodcock of the season. It came shooting low across the sky and disappeared into the orchard above the finca. This week Katie also shared something close to her heart - a new offering called The Wild Shift. The Wild Shift is a gentle, nature-led parenting mentorship that helps families create calmer days, deeper connection, and a steadier rhythm of life by bringing the living world back to the heart of everyday family life. Over the past six months, this work has been carefully shaped and refined - shared with parents and nature educators as it took shape. UK nature communicator WildlifeKate recognised the heart of the project, endorsing it: “Encouraging families to get outdoors, explore, connect and appreciate nature is something I’m deeply passionate about. This course offers a practical and inspiring way to nurture that connection and help children, and their carers, develop a lifelong love of wildlife and the environment.” The mentorship is now open to founding members only for the next week. You can read all the details here: Founding membership closes: Friday 16th January at 8pm (UK) (If you joined this newsletter through Katie’s Family Nature Connection activities, you may already be on The Wild Shift mailing list too. If not, you can join it here to stay up to date.) For those of you who’ve read No Paradise with Wolves, Luke and I recently remembered that we’d actually recorded the infamous relocation of cow poop using El Mexicano’s horse and cart (and wow… we look young!). And finally - No Paradise with Wolves received its first 1-star review on Amazon. Does that mean Katie has officially made it? There was no comment to go with it, so we’re not quite sure what prompted it - but we’d be incredibly grateful to anyone who’s read (and preferably enjoyed!) the book if you’d consider leaving a review wherever you can. With the warmest and wildest of wishes for 2026, Katie, Luke, Roan & Albus |

Dear Reader, We now have four Swallows singing from our electricity line, chasing each other through the air. The Grasshopper Warblers surround us, and the spring flowers are in full bloom — a Giant Orchid on the loop, Wild Garlic down by the river, and Primroses gracing every grassy patch they can put roots down in. There are Cuckoo flowers in abundance too, but we are yet to hear one… I (Katie) had a very strange dream that I had heard a Cuckoo, only to realise it was someone playing a...
Dear Reader, It’s been a month since our last letter. We’ve been busy. The house build continues here at Wild Finca — plastering, endless roofing, and so many decisions! And then, amidst all that, quite suddenly, spring seems to have sprung! January was relentless with storms. Last week, when we visited the beach, we found three dead Puffins washed ashore — a sobering reminder of how wild and fragile winter can be. So we are especially grateful to feel we’re coming through the other side. In...
Dear Reader,We have something special to share with you this week. Last spring our lovely friends Penny and Dave Green visited us here at Wild Finca. You may remember the newsletter afterwards - full of moth trapping, bio-blitzing, and all sorts of other magical nature activities. While they were here, Penny also recorded a conversation with us for her wonderful podcast The Wandering Ecologist. Listening back feels like stepping straight into an Asturian spring day - birds calling, pond...
